UK Banking Forum — House Rules
Welcome to the UKBanking.forum! A space for informed, honest, and grounded discussion about banking, credit, finance in the United Kingdom (and beyond!).
This isn’t Reddit or Facebook, please don't treat it as such.
🧾 1. Stay Relevant (in the banking tags, off-topic in the relevant tags)
Most of the forum is for UK banking topics. That includes:
- Current accounts, savings, ISAs
- Credit scores, CRA tools, CIFAS, Nat Hunter (you get the gist)
- KYC, onboarding, declines
- App experiences, branch stories
- Product features (debit cards, perks and cash back, etc.)
Out of scope: Crypto speculation, what you had to eat yesterday and the colour of your socks, we've off-topic tags for that!
🔒 2. No Personal Attacks
Debate the idea, not the person. We’re here to challenge systems, not each other.
Zero tolerance for:
- Discrimination
- Personal insults, dogpiling, or mockery
- Dismissing someone’s lived experience
🛑 3. No Illegal Activity or Advice
This includes:
- Encouraging fraud, money laundering, or "how do I move this money without getting a CIFAS marker"
- Posting about synthetic IDs or “ways around KYC”
- If you have to ask, don't post it.
🗣 4. Be Specific, Not Vague
If you’re asking for help:
- Include specific information and what you’ve already tried
- Don’t make us play 20 questions
If you’re giving advice:
- Speak from real knowledge or lived experience
- Link sources where appropriate
Don't post a half-arsed answer when you don't know, please do flag where people are uploading inappropriate or incorrect advice
⚖️ 5. Respect Privacy and Anonymity
- Do not dox, name bank staff, or share private emails without redaction.
- Screenshots are allowed, at your own risk. We recommend you blank out names and account numbers.
- Likewise, if you work for a financial institution, probably don't go shouting it, this is a public forum and we'd recommend using a pseudonym.
🏷 6. Use Tags and Categories
We have many useful tags and categories, make use of them!
Help others find your post:
- [Decline]
- [KYC]
- [Card]
- [ISA]
- [Branch]
- [App]
These are just some examples of the types of tags at your disposal, remember, clarity helps us all. This isn’t a shout-into-the-void forum, again, not Reddit, not a Facebook group or a crappy off-shoot Discord.
💬 7. Keep It Real
Swearing in context is fine. Expressing frustration is fine. But if your post reads like a death threat to a KYC analyst, it might be going. Likewise, don't lie to us about your situation, we can only provide the most applicable information if we know the truth, use a pseudonym!
🫱 8. Mods Are Not Your Enemy
We’ll act when necessary:
- To protect members from abuse
- To uphold these community guidelines
- To uphold the TOS of our hosting provider, the law in the UK and any other applicable regions
If you disagree, ping @jo or @nano, I have entrusted Jo to ensure the smooth running of the forum
🧠 9. This Forum Remembers
If you’re here after being declined, mistreated, or misunderstood within another community, you’re not alone. We remember that systems fail, and people fall through - in all manner of life.
Here, we don’t flinch at fintech obsession, it's not even just tolerated, but welcomed!
🔚 10. If You Can’t Follow These — Don’t Stay
It’s that simple. We don't tolerate snarky users from other forums either.
